choosing your crepe maker

Gas or Electric Crepe Maker?

The first thing you need to decide when choosing a Crepe Maker is whether you require a Gas or Electric Crêpe Maker. Gas griddles are usually more suited to outdoor and event caterers. Although, you may be setting up in a fixed-outlet and prefer a gas supply which is more cost effective. Therefore, you should consider your kitchen design carefully. A Gas Crêpe Maker will have to be located in a fixed space in order to be connected to your gas supply. Consequently, you will limit the mobility of your griddle for occasional events. Therefore, if you are operating from a fixed outlet. For example, a restaurant, cafe, or dessert parlour then an Electric Crêpe Maker is probably the right choice for you.

Gas Crêpe Makers

If you decide that a Gas Crêpe Maker is perfect for you. Then the next thing to consider is the type of model that you require. Our best-selling and most popular model by far is the 400mm Heavy Duty Crêpe Maker by Krampouz. This model offers both fantastic reliability and great value. It also comes as a Starter Kit, including all the accessories that you’d require to get going.

Krampouz offer a vast-range of models with extra features. Therefore, if you need something more specific with special features then we can provide you with a bespoke quote. We’ll help you find the best crepe maker model from the range for you specific requirements. Special features to consider are as follows:

round or square frame crepe maker

Round or Square Frame Crêpe Maker?

The functionality and performance of either option is the same. Whilst slightly more expensive, the square-frame models are easier to clean and maintain. Additionally, they offer a stylish aesthetic and are a compact choice. They are usually ideal for caterers operating out of bespoke vans and trailers, where space is restricted and tight.

If space isn’t an issue. For example, where more flexibility is allowed for tents and stall layout, then a round crepe-maker will be perfect for you.

single or double gas crepe maker

Single or Double?

All round-frames come as single options of course. Although, you can choose a Double Crepe Maker on a Rectangular Frame. As mentioned, for the square frames, especially the double option where space is an issue, this could be ideal for you. It’s worth remembering, that if either side of your double griddle ever require repair or maintenance. Then you would be two machines down whilst the combined unit is being serviced.

Piezo-ignition

Piezo-ignition?

When choosing a Crepe Maker, you have the option of an in-built piezoelectric-ignition on your Gas Crêpe Maker. However, our most popular model comes without, so we always recommend a Gas Lighter as a backup. An in-built ignition is an added feature. Whilst some customers really do prefer this option, it really is down to personal preference and budget. Understandably,  there is a price difference for the add-on.

Manual or Thermostatic Control

Manual or Thermostatic Control?

In the main, most caterers are happy with a manual flame control. Therefore, adjusting through trial and error throughout the day, adapting to the unpredictable weather changes. Although, some operators prefer a more regulated thermostatic control with a graduated numbered 1-10 gas-mark dial for thermostatic control. Conversely, there’s a low-to-high setting on the manual control option. This add-on does comes with some advantages. Although it does add to the cost of your Crêpe Maker, so the choice is entirely yours. The accuracy of the thermostatic control is also lessened in adverse weather conditions which is also worth noting.

6 or 8 branches

6 or 8 branches?

Our most-popular model is a 6-branch model, and these are perfectly adequate. It is true however that an 8-branch model allows even better heat coverage, consistency and performance. If your budget allows, then an 8-branch model is a top-of-the-range option. These are available in either Round, Square or Double Frame versions.

Electric Crêpe Makers

If you decide that an Electric Crêpe Maker is perfect for you, then the next thing to consider is the type of model that you require. Our best-selling and most popular model by far is the 400mm Heavy Duty Crêpe Maker by Krampouz. This model offers both fantastic reliability and great value. It also comes as a Starter Kit, including all the accessories that you’d require to get going.

The range of electric models is fairly easy to navigate, especially after considering the following choices:

Electric Crêpe Makers

Standard (left), Heavy-Duty (right)

Do I need a Standard or Heavy Duty Crêpe Maker?

Carefully consider whether you require a Heavy Duty Crêpe Maker, or a Standard version. This is important when choosing a crepe maker. Whilst the Standard Crêpe Maker is attractive from a price point-of-view, this machine was introduced as a bridge between a domestic griddle and the commercial range. It’s perfect for occasional and temporary use at weddings and events, or as a backup option. You might require a machine that is going to be used on a daily basis, throughout the week. Therefore, the only choice for you is a Heavy Duty commercial machine. The Heavy Duty machine is robustly designed to be left on all-day, every-day. If you opt for a Standard version and use it on a daily basis, then the thermostat will break down within months. Moreover, the warranty will be voided as this machine isn’t designed to be used on a high-output commercial basis.

However, if you just require a Crêpe Maker for occasional use, for smaller events, or as a backup option then a Standard Crêpe Maker will be perfect for you.

Size and Power of your Crêpe Maker

The next important choice is the size of your Crêpe Maker. This is usually determined by the electrical setup of your kitchen. Although the 400mm Heavy Duty Crêpe Maker is by far our most popular machine, producing the popular 40cm large crêpes. However it does come fitted with a 16-amp French plug unfortunately. As UK sockets are only 13-amp rated, then this requires some additional work from an electrician. For example, either replacing the plug and wall socket with 16-amp commando plugs and sockets. Alternatively, by wiring the Crêpe Maker into the mains directly, like a wall-mounted heater.

We do highly recommend getting a qualified electrician to look into this for you. Whilst using an ordinary travel adapter may be tempting, you will likely trip the electrics. This could damage the electrical components of your Crêpe Maker or much worse. Additionally, this will also void the warranty due to improper use.

If all that sounds like too much of a headache for you, then you can solve the issue by purchasing a 350mm Heavy Duty Crêpe Maker. This machine comes fitted with a 13-amp UK plug, ready to plug-and-go. It’s still designed to be used in a heavy-output commercial environment. Whilst it produces a slightly smaller crêpe than is the norm, there is a price-saving and less additional work required by an electrician.

Round or Square Frame crepe maker

As with the Gas models, the functionality and performance of either option is the same. Whilst slightly more expensive, the square-frame models are easier to clean and maintain. Plus, they offer a stylish aesthetic and compact choice. They are usually ideal for fixed outlets with an open, front-of-house kitchen design, retail pods and carefully designed kitchen. these= worktop spaces require compact and precise equipment fittings. You can choose from either Single or Double options.

If space isn’t an issue, and where more flexibility is allowed for your kitchen layout, then a round crepe-maker will be perfect for you.

All round-frames come as single options of course, although you can choose a Double Crepe Maker on a Rectangular Frame. As mentioned, for the square frames, especially in the double option, if space is an issue, then a double framed option could be ideal for you. It’s worth remembering, that if either side of your double griddle requires repair or maintenance. Then you would be two machines down whilst the combined unit is being serviced.
