Hailing from Brittany, France – ‘the home of the crêpe!’ – Loic has over 20 years experience in the catering industry, with a passion for crêpe & waffle making. Using his expertise and knowledge, Loic formulated traditional recipes for our wholesale batter mix, offering authentic French flavour and texture.

A world from the founder Loic Moinon:

‘I want to share a little bit about us at Pancake World, to show our audience that we are a small business with our people at the heart of what we do. I will start at the beginning…

My dad was a restauranteur so I have always had food in my blood. Coming from Brittany, the birth place of the ‘crepe’, starting a creperie business seemed the obvious choice for me. I picked up a little red scrapbook and scribbled down a basic plan to start a ‘crepe van’. I launched my first crepe stall in March 2009 in South Wales, and a second only 2 months later. By the end of 2009, I had Franchised my business with franchisees operating in Leeds, London, & Cornwall. At this point, many customers had expressed their adoration of my crepe mix, and so I started to produce my own mix to retail direct.

In June 2012 I opened up my own Creperie Cafe in Cardiff, and then in January 2013 I decided to split the business 3 ways between the catering, the cafe and the wholesale: Pancake World was born. At this stage, the bakery also couldn’t keep up with the demand, so I took to a larger company to mill more than just ‘crepe’ mix, also branching out into the waffle mix business.

As I was doing this, I also focused on increasing the range of products for our customers, adding crepe griddles & accessories to our growing list of items. My team grew, naturally, and so we moved into our ‘Pancake Studio’ in the centre of Llantwit Major in December 2015 and launched our Training Modules at the same time. Since then, we have trained up over 250 businesses with people having travelled to us from across the world. Eight years on, we now supply a wide client base, from restaurants, hotels, market traders and dessert lounges, to small independents or market traders. The company also has a sister company delivering desserts & pizzas in our local area, as well as operating a small daily bakery on an industrial estate.
